It doesn't get much better when you have an obedient well behaved dog at your side in the field or in your home. Your dog should be a real joy not a burden.
The obedience training in a hunting companion is not much different. A good hunting partner must listen at all times and sit steady in a blind. If you have no time, not sure how to train your dog or at your wits end and want to get rid of your dog.....we can solve your problem. One month of training will give you a dog to be proud of. Your dog will come when called, heel when going for walks, leave other dogs/people alone, no jumping and sit & stay. We take on aggressive breeds and limit the amount of dogs we take on at one time so that we can give your dog lots of individual one on one.
If your looking for a well behaved dog that will sit and stay, heel by your side with or without a leash, stop running away, listen when called, this might be a answer for you.
All dogs must have kennel cough vaccine and booster shots up to date.
$25.00 a day for boarding and $10.00 a day for training. Once your dog is trained we recommend you and your family spend time with us to learn all the commands that your dog now knows. You are welcome anytime to come visit your dog and see how he/she progresses.
We take dogs in for training from Feb 1st - Sept 1
Our training season usually ends begining of Sept. For those interested parties, we offer pheasant hunts at Douglas Lake Ranch just outside Merritt BC, were we tail gate release 100 pen raised pheasants over a two day period. Perfect way to finish a season with a young dog. With trainer at foot, you and your newly trained dog will get the experience you've both been waiting for.
I prefer to start young dogs at 6 months of age however, we have had dogs as old as the age of 2. We charge $800.00 per month for training, in Canadian funds, which includes the cost of birds. To get a good start on your dog we ask that you plan on leaving your dog for no less than 2-3 months.
At 2 months of training, your dog will be force broke, obedience trained to come in, heel and deliver to hand. Each dog goes home introduced to gun shot doing single retrieves. They will respond well to the come in whistle and with a strong understanding of the command, hold, fetch, drop and leave it. Ducks, pidgeons, chuckar and pheasants are used in our training program, along with the Bumper Boy launchers. Teaching these young dogs to quarter in the field for those who hunt upland is also included if requested.
3 months of training will give you all the above, however, the dog should be well started on doing double retrieves and introduced to the whistle sit command. To get your dog nice and steady we use live birds when in season or our Bango launchers. This equipment is designed to develope hunting dogs by simulating a flying bird and a gun shot. Great for teaching long retrieving, marking, gun shot conditioning, looking in the sky for birds, flushing, sit to flush, steadiness, and developing desire. A remote controlled manual launcher simulates real hunting by projecting a special synethetic bird desinged to stand up to real shotgun blast.
6 months of training your dog will give you all the above and is now well started on hand signals for blind retrieves. The dog should be steady in the blind and be ready to retrieve only when his name is called.
